Every six months Simon and Karen ask people to read books published in the same year and put reviews online wherever you put reviews (blog, GoodReads, Instagram, etc.). Any sort of book from anywhere in the world is welcomed – the only rule is that it was first published in 1940.
I’ll be reading Death at the Bar by Ngaio Marsh. I was hoping to read D.E. Stevenson’s book The English Air (I’ve only read one of her books and that was ages ago) but I won’t receive it until later this month. If I have time I might get to The Corinthian by Georgette Heyer as well.
Two books I have already read and blogged about that were published in 1940 are:
Landfall by Nevil Shute
An Old Captivity by Nevil Shute
I only just posted my announcement. Nevile Shute didn’t come up, otherwise I might have chosen a book by him. Now it’s Paris France by Gertrude Stein.

I didn’t see him mentioned, either, Marianne, which surprised me. He wrote quite a few of his books during the war years.

Yes, weird. Well, now I know about it, I can always read one of those in future.
And I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s late. Thanks, Carol.

Those two books by Nevil Shute published in 1940 sound very interesting, especially Landfall. I have only read book by Shute, On the Beach, but plan to read more.

I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve read by Shute. I listened to On the Beach a long time ago & I must get to read it – I don’t enjoy listening as much as actually reading & my initial impression was that it was OK. A read would give me a better idea of whether I liked it as much as some of his others.
He’s definitely worth checking out. I’ve written about most of the Shute books I’ve read & do want to fill in the blanks of those that I haven’t ‘reviewed.’
🙂
